The Ooltgensplaat Medal was established by William VI, Prince of Orange-Nassau, and future King William I, in 1814. It was awarded to Dutch military personnel and civilians in recognition of courageous actions during the battle with French forces that took place near Ooltgensplaat in the same year.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "For Courage and Patriotism." A total of 34 were awarded.
