History

The Shooting Medal of the Royal Dutch East Indies Army was established in 1936 as a replacement for the previous shooting prizes. It was permanently discontinued when the Dutch East Indies Army was disbanded in 1951.

It was awarded to members of the Royal Dutch East Indies Army for meritorious achievements in annual shooting competitions. Bronze clasps were awarded to denote the disciplines in which the achievements were made. These include:
- "GEWEER MAAL" (Rifle)
- "PISTOOL MAAL" (Pistol)
- "K.M. MAAL" (Carabine/Machine Gun)
- "MITR. MAAL" (Machine Gun).
