History

The Rotterdam Medal was established in 1816 and was awarded to the volunteers of Rotterdam who defended the city against French occupation in 1815. It was issued non-wearable, but it became permitted for wear on military uniforms on September 27, 1833.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Rotterdam Volunteer Forces." A total of 121 were awarded.
