History

The Militia Long Service Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1851, but it was officially discontinued in 1907. It was awarded to enlisted members of Dutch civil militias in recognition of long service. These militias, or Schutterij, were widespread in the Netherlands from the 16th to early 20th century.

The II Class Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Loyal Service, Militia." There may be additional versions that vary in size.
