History


Established by King Olav V, this Medal was conferred in commemoration of the 6th Norwegian Antarctic Expedition in 1956-60, and was conferred to participants of the expedition.

There was a sum of 37 recipients.

This medal has the exact same design as the King's Medal of Merit (See NOR109 in Medals & Decorations for more information), but is differentiated by the clasp on it's ribbon. the Antarctic Medal has a clasp that reads "ANTARKTIS" on the ribbon.

The reverse of the medal was engraved with the recipients name.
