History


Established by King Haakon VII, this Medal was conferred upon individuals in recognition of meritorious long service to the King, and long service to foreign Norwegian service missions.

Foreigners are eligible to receive this Medal in association with the Kings international travels and with respect to state visits.

Other individuals who have rendered meritorious effort may be conferred this Medal.

When conferred upon females, this Medal is conferred on a bow ribbon.

This Medal may also be known as the Royal House Medal of Recompense.

The obverse design of the medal consists of the royal portrait of the reigning monarch, and the reverse design of the medal consists of the reigning monarch's monogram.

The I Class Gold Medal (with crown) is conferred upon individuals who have rendered 25 years of service to the King, as well as 25 years of service to foreign Norwegian service missions.
