History

Established by King Haakon VII, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the King's succession, this Medal was conferred upon members of the Royal Family, members of the Royal Court, high ranked civil and military officials, members of the government, foreign ambassadors, the President of parliament, and others of equivalent rank.

Individuals who had been previously conferred Haakon VII's Silver Jubilee Medal (1905-1930) (See NOR130 in Medals & Decorations for more information), who were still alive during the Golden Jubilee, and were qualified to receive the Haakon VII's Golden Jubilee Medal, received the additional clasp rather than an entire new medal.

This medal was conferred with an associated clasp that reads "1905-1955". The clasp was manufactured by J. Tostrup, in Oslo.

The design of the medal is identical to the Haakon VII's Commemorative Medal, Haakon VII's Silver Jubilee Medal (1905-1930), and Haakon VII's Centenary Medal (See NOR129, NOR130, and NOR133 respectively, in Medals & Decorations for more information on these medals), although these medals are differentiated by the clasps they are conferred with.
