Awarded by the Police Director, this Medal is conferred upon Norwegian police personnel, uniformed and civilian, who have rendered at least six months of service abroad, which was appointed by the Norwegian authorities.
Individuals who have rendered a shorter period of service are still eligible to receive the award on the terms that they are being recognized for meritorious service abroad.
Foreigners are eligible to receive this Medal if they have rendered service and support to the Norwegian Police Forces abroad.
For additional long service, star shaped clasps may be added to the recipient's ribbon. An individual can receive maximum of three star clasps.
After a recipient has rendered more than 60 months of service to the Police Force, a clasp, shaped as a laurel branch, may be added to the ribbon.
A rosette may also be added to the recipient's ribbon if they are being recognized for their commendable achievements.
