History


Established by King Haakon VII, this Medal is conferred to individuals who are model citizens of Norway, rendering long term volunteer services in private or public divisions, or other social associations, also, for meritorious achievements in areas of humanitarian work, science, business, art, and social work.

Only on rare occasions, the Gold Medal is awarded.

The obverse design features the Royal portrait of the reigning monarch. The name of the recipient is engraved on the reverse, encircled by a laurel wreath.

There are three known versions of this Medal, a version during the reign of King Haakon VII (1908-1957), a version during the reign of King Olav V (1957-1991), and version during the reign of King Harald V (1991-).
