History

This Medal is conferred upon Slovenian citizens, foreign nationals, and members of foreign international organizations in recognition of service in support of the independence and freedom of the Republic, or for services related to gaining Slovenian freedom and independence, as well as for courageous actions to protect the freedom of the Slovenia.

A large quantity of the recipients of this Order were involved in conflicts to gain Slovenian sovereignty from Yugoslavia.

This Medal can be conferred posthumously.
