The Italy Star was instituted by King George VI in May 1945. The Bronze Star is awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth forces in recognition of one day or more of operational service on land in Italy, Sicily, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Aegean area and Dodecanese Islands, Corsica, Sardinia and Elba between June 11, 1943, and May 8, 1945. The Italy Star was awarded in addition to other Second World War campaign Stars.
