History

The Jummoo and Kashmir Medal was instituted by the Maharajah of Jummoo and Kashmir in 1895. The Bronze Medal was conferred to Native and approximately 400 British troops in commemoration of the Defence and Relief of Chitral campaigns in 1895. It was issued with a clasp that reads, "CHITRAL 1895".

The Medal features a Hindustani inscription on the obverse. It was issued unnamed, but privately altered versions may be encountered.
