The King Hussein Medal was established by King Hussein, the King of Jordan, in 1970. The Silver Medal was created to reward British military medical teams for service in relief operations, also known as “Operation Shoveller”, during and after the Civil War of September 1970. The King Hussein Medal is not authorized for wear on uniform.

The Medal features an obverse inscription in both Arabic and English.
