The Southern Rhodesia War Service Medal was instituted in 1946 and awarded to British and Commonwealth forces who served in Southern Rhodesia between 1939 and 1945 and who did not already qualify for the award of campaign stars or medals. Only approximately 1 700 Silver Medals were issued.
