The Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal was instituted on February 24, 1993, to reward Australian support personnel who served in the Vietnam War between 1964-1968 but who did not qualify for the Vietnam Medal. Recipients include members of the Qantas Air Crew and civilian entertainers.

The design of the Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal is the same as the Vietnam Medal, except that the Vietnam Logistic and Support Medals features a plain suspension.

The Silver Medal may also be awarded posthumously.
