History

The Conspicuous Gallantry Cross was established in 1993 and replaced the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal.

It is awarded to members of any rank in any branch of the British Armed Forces in recognition of conspicuous acts of gallantry in combat. It may be awarded multiple times to the same recipient, in which case a bar clasp is worn on the ribbon to denote each additional award. It may be awarded posthumously.

Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters CGC.
