History

The Order of Burma was established by Royal Warrant on May 10, 1940, but was only awarded for a short period before it was permanently discontinued in 1947.

The Gold Medal was awarded to Commissioned Officers of the Burmese Armed Forces, the Burmese military police, and the Burmese border guard in recognition of long and faithful service. Beginning in 1945, the order could be awarded for acts of bravery or exceptional examples of meritorious service. Members were entitled to use the post-nominal letters OB.

The Order was only conferred a total of 24 times.
