History

The Colonial Police Long Service Medal was instituted by King George V by Royal Warrant on March 23, 1934. The Silver Medal was initially awarded to Junior Officers of Colonial police forces upon the completion of 18 years of exemplary service but was later extended to reward Officers of all ranks. The Medal was reissued as the Overseas Territories Police Long Service Medal in 2012.

A clasp was awarded to denote 25 years of service and a second clasp was awarded to denote 30 years of service. A silver rosette could be worn on the ribbon to denote the award of a clasp when the ribbon is worn alone.

There are multiple versions of the Medal which differ by the obverse effigy of the reigning sovereign.

The Medal features the recipient's name and service details engraved on the rim, but a variety of different naming styles were used.
