History

The Automobile Association Service Medal was instituted in 1956 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Automobile Association (AA). The Silver Medal is awarded to members of the Association in recognition of devotion to duty or for demonstrations of courageous and outstanding initiative, including acts of bravery and life-saving in accidents. Approximately 60 Medals have been issued.

A silver-gilt and enamelled clasp inscribed "192064" is awarded to denote 20 years of good driving.

The Medal is accompanied with a monetary award.
