the Fiji Independence Medal 1970 was authorized by Queen Elizabeth II in 1970 to commemorate Fiji's Independence from the United Kingdom. The Medal was awarded to members of the Armed Forces, Prison Service, Police Force, Aerodrome Fire Service, and Forest Guards in recognition of service provided during Fiji's Independence on October 10, 1970. Civil servants and civilians of Fiji who have demonstrated outstanding public service were also eligible for the award.
