History

The Vanuatu Independence Medal 1980 was instituted in 1981 to commemorate Vanuatu's independence from the United Kingdom in 1980. The Medal was awarded to heads of state and foreign dignitaries who participated in the Independence ceremonies on July 30, 1980. Personnel who made a significant contribution to the attainment of Vanuatu's independence were also eligible for the award.
