Dagger hangers are not considered to be part of the dagger. Instead, they fall under individual equipment. A dagger hanger is composed of two suspension bands with a carrying frame and fittings.

The suspension bands of aluminum tress with stripes along the length. The backing is usually field-grey velvet, but cloth backings have sometimes been observed a well. One band is slightly longer than the other, 23.5 cm compared to 21 cm.

The design of the frame is dependent on the manufacturer and thus can differ. However, most are of similar design, with a top section used to hook to the carbine hook of the shoulder belt, and two bottom sections holding the suspension bands.

The fittings are an oval, one-pronged buckle for a single hole, reinforced by a metal grommet, and a carbine or spring hook, held in position by a movable clasp. Buckles and clasps have a pattern of oak leaves. An oak leaves pattern was also found on the spring-slide hook version, while the carbine hooks are usually pebbled.

The hooks were attached to the dagger scabbard rings. The fittings were made of light metal with either a silver or aluminum-coloured plating, or, for generals, gold-coloured. Late version usually have a dull grey finish.
