History

The basic uniform of the Female Auxiliaries consisted of a white or grey blouse and skirt.

The cap was similar in design to the army officer’s overseas cap, but with a narrower top, which has a deep crease. It is stone-grey, and has a white (later also sometimes silver) eagle insignia on the front, as well as a downward pointing bolt of lightning in yellow on a black round patch, which was affixed to the left side. The insignia were mostly machine-woven. If piping was worn, the cap was piped along crown seam and the front half of the side panels.

Between 1940 and 1943, Hauptführerinnen wore gold-coloured cord piping, Oberführerinnen wore yellow and silver cord, and Führerinnen wore yellow cord. Helferinnen wore no piping.

Between 1943 and 1945, Oberstabsführerinnen and Stabsführerinnen wore gold cord piping, Hauptführerinnen wore silver cord piping, Oberführerinnen wore yellow, silver, and black cord piping, and Führerinnen and Unterführerinnen wore yellow and black cord piping. Helferinnen wore no piping.
