History

In general, the uniforms of the male Hitler Youth members consisted of a top, a neckerchief and woggle – but a tie for officers –, bottoms, a belt, knee socks, and shoes or boots.

The winter trousers were introduced in a regulation from October 15, 1937. They had been worn by the members of the German Youngsters since late 1934, and were now adopted by the older members of the Hitler Youth. They were then worn by all male members.

They are long trousers in dark blue, made of an unknown material, and tapered at the ankles, with black tie-strings. Two concealed vertical slash pockets with a flap and secured by two buttons each are located at the front, whereas generally there is just one concealed back pocket with a single button flap, located on the right side. Also on the backside, just below the waistline on both sides is a sizing strap with a black metal buckle each.

The buttons are black and made from plastic.

The winter trousers of the Aviation HJ members were identical, except that after 1938 all items worn during the winter months (October 15 to April 14) or during flying exercises were of air force blue colour.

Luftwaffe War Auxiliaries, colloquially known as Flak Helpers, wore the same trousers, but in Luftwaffe blue-grey. They were introduced in 1943.

Members of Aeronautical Preparatory Technical Schools (Fliegertechnische Vorschulen) in the rank of Hitlerjunge to Oberscharführer also wore the Luftwaffe blue-grey colour. It is unknown when this was first introduced.
