History

In the 1920s and early 1930s, the SS wore a version of the standard red brassard that had black borders on the top and bottom edges.

The base of the brassards was originally produced out of cotton and the black details were either woven or machine-sewn. The cotton brassards were eventually replaced in the 1930s with a version produced out of good quality wool.

In 1934, the RZM began to oversee the production of SS uniforms and accoutrements, including the SS brassard. RZM pattern brassards are produced out of red wool and the black silk details are generally machine-sewn. These brassards usually have black RZM/SS silk labels, although, they can also be found with paper RZM/SS labels, which were introduced in the late 1930s.
