History

In 1934, a black cape was introduced for all ranks of the Allgemeine SS, although, due to how expensive this article of clothing was, few members purchased one.

The exterior of the cape was manufactured out of black cloth and the interior was lined with a light grey material. The collars were lined with aluminium piping and they closed with a neck fastener. In around 1938, an ornate aluminium fastening clasp, which featured an M36 SS pattern eagle, was added.

Along with the collar piping, the only other insignia worn on the cape were collar tabs.

The cape was quite expensive to produce and it was discontinued after the outbreak of the Second World War.
