History

By June of 1935, the Leibstandarte SS "Adolf Hitler" regiment had been fully equipped with earth-grey field uniforms, despite the fact that these new uniforms were not officially introduced until November 25th, 1935.

The earth-grey tunic was identical in design to the standard black service uniform, except it had five instead of four front buttons. Enlisted ranks were allowed to wear the tunic open or closed.

Officers of the SS-VT wore tailor made uniforms and their tunics had only four buttons. Officers were not permitted to wear their tunics closed.

Originally, all ranks were issued breeches that were reinforced with leather on the inside leg and seat.

The standard black SS uniform continued to be used as parade dress.
