This is a scarce and well preserved example of a NSFK (National Socialist Flyer’s Corps/Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps) Motor Pilot Badge; Type II; an oval shaped badge in silvered tombac; the obverse consisting of an oak wreath tied together at the bottom, with a two-seater plane superimposed on the badge, and a winged man (Icarus) in flight, with a mobile swastika superimposed on his legs and a banner above with “NSFK” in recessed lettering; the reverse with a horizontal tapered pin and a functional hinge/catch assembly; marked “Ges. Gesch”, and with the patent number “22639” on the reverse; measuring 49.5x57.5mm; weighing 16.8 grams; in overall extremely fine condition.
The Badge was instituted by NSFK Korpsführer General der Flieger Friedrich Christiansen on July 12, 1938, and was conferred upon NSFK pilots upon receiving their powered aircraft license.
The badge was remodeled for the first time in 1938. The new design was composed of silvered metal and had a reverse pin that allowed for easy removal.
