History

The Legion Condor Tank Badge was instituted by Colonel von Thoma in 1936 and was conferred upon members of the armoured unit who served with the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939. The group of men were tasked with training Francisco Franco’s Nationalist forces and taught the men about tanks, infantry tactics, signals and artillery.

The badge was made an official award in 1939.
