History

The decoration was instituted between October 1937 and June 1938 by Colonel, Friedrich-Carl Kranz. For unknown reasons, this honor plaque has been awarded in two categories. The Silver Honor Plaque was instituted in 1941 by General Ludwig Wolff. The Iron Honour Plaque exists in three versions.

In order to achieve the award, a recipient had to, for example, show successful marksmanship training results, rescue a child from drowning, or play a decisive role in the implementation of technical improvements to weapons.
