History

The award was instituted by Generalleutnant Eberth. There are no details known on the institution of this award. However, Air District V was only in existence between March of 1935 and October of 1937.

There are two versions of this award, one in bronze and one in silver.

The bronze award is rectangular with a raised edge. It features a 1st pattern "droop tail" Luftwaffe eagle with swastika, above which is the name "Oberst Ritter v. Mann". The inscription below reads: for outstanding merits / the commanding general and chief of Air District V.

The silver award is in the form of a curved crest, mounted to a darkened wooden rectangle. The eagle is a 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle. The inscription remains the same.

The German title of this award is "Ehrenplakette des Luftkreises V".
