History

The Helvetia Benigna Medal was founded by Wilhelm II to recognize the efforts of Swiss citizens who cared for interned German Prisoners of War during the First World War in Switzerland.

The Silver Medal was awarded to both male and female citizens of Switzerland, but it was not conferred with an associated ribbon.

The Silver Medal for Men was worn as a medallion on a chain.

The Silver Medal for Women was worn as a broach.
