The Medal was established by the Senate of Bremen and it was awarded at the discretion of the Senate. There are no definite award stipulations.

7 Gold Medals were awarded from 1902 to 1915, four of which were given as grand prices at trade exhibitions.

In 1928, the Medal was conferred upon the crew of the aircraft “Bremen.”
