Trier


Trier is a city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , Germany. The city is located near the border with Luxembourg. Trier was founded in the 3rd century and claims the title of Germany's oldest city.

From the end of the 9th to the early 19th century, was Trier known as The Electorate of Trier. It was an ecclesiastical principality of the Holy Roman Empire.

From 1815 to 1822 was the Electorate of Trier a part of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine and it was a province of the Kingdom of Prussia. The province was created after the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

Since 1946 Trier belongs to the state Rhineland-Palatinate.
