History

The Order was founded by George Topou II on April 16, 1913, and it was conferred upon individuals who rendered exceptional service to the state and crown.

On July 31, 2008, the Order was reorganized by King George Topou V.

The Order can be conferred upon civilians and individuals within the military. In additional, both natives of Tonga and foreigners are eligible to receive the Award.

The inscription on the obverse translates to: God and Tonga are my patrimony.
