History
S.A. Picchiani e Barlacchi was established in 1902. In the 1930s and 1940s the company risked being deported to Germany and thus obtained special orders to produce medals and badges for Italy. This secured their permanence in Italy. In 1936, the company produced the badges for the Italian team for the Olympics. In 1972, S.A. Picchiani e Barlacchi began to produce medals for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In the 1990s, competition from the foreign market caused the company to hit a rough patch as production slowed. The company managed to persevere and is owned today by Chiara Montauti. The company produces the Honorary Decoration for the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
