History

The CENTO Commemorative Award was established around 1955 in commemoration of the formation of the Baghdad Pact, which was later renamed the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO) in 1959. CENTO was modelled after the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and was composed of the nations of Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The award was presented in 2 Classes before it was made obsolete following the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
