History

It is believed that the Order of Avicenna (Ibn Sina) was founded by HIM Muhammad Reza Shah. The Order may have been instituted to replace the Razi Decoration as an award for military medical merit. More research is needed. The Order also has an associated Medal.

The award is named after the Persian polymath, Avicenna (or Ibn Sina), who is one of the most significant thinkers of the Islamic golden age and is regarded as the father of early modern medicine.

The Medal features an obverse Persian inscription of the award's patron.
