History

The Mother of Battles Medal, 1990-1991 (Wissam 'Uum al-M'aaraak) was instituted in 1991 and awarded to members of the Iraqi Armed Forces in recognition of service in the Second Gulf War.

The Medal features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "God is Great" and "Mother of Battles."

There may be additional versions of the Medal or additional Medals authorized to award subsequent service in the Second Gulf War. More research is necessary.
