History

The Police Active Service Medal (Nut al-Shurta lil Khidmat al-Ammal), or the Police General Service Medal, was originally instituted by King Ghazi of Iraq in 1939 (see IRQ111) but was later modified by General Qassim after the 1958 Revolution. The Medal is rewarded to members of the Iraqi police force and auxiliary forces for active general service. The Medal may also be known as the Police National Service Medal.

The Medal features an Arabic inscription on the reverse which translates to "Police General Service Medal."
