History


The Medal of Courage (Erdik) was established by Presidential Law on April 16, 1996. The Medal is awarded to Kyrgyzstan citizens in recognition of acts of courage and bravery. Qualifying service includes selfless actions demonstrated by saving lives, protecting public order, fighting crime, or for acts during national disasters or other emergency situations. Service provided in the performance of military, official, or civic duty which involves the risk of personal life or safety is also eligible for the award of the Medal.

The Medal features a Cyrillic inscription on the obverse which translats to "Erdik."
