History

The Order of Merit (Wisam al-Istahqaq) was instituted in 1982. The Order was created to reward achievements in science, sport, agriculture, industry, and art.

The Decoration is worn from a neck badge.

Recipients of the Order of Merit are entitled to the post-nominal letters "WA." However, it is uncertain if this abbreviation is official. More research is necessary.
