History

The King Abdulaziz al-Saud Decoration was established by King Saud ibn Abdulaziz in 1955 in commemoration of the first monarch of Saudi Arabia. The Decoration was awarded in 5 Grades to Officers of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces in recognition of distinguished service and outstanding achievements in the field of combat. Officers who have demonstrated excellent efficiency during peacetime may also be eligible for the award. The Decoration became obsolete by 1971.

The III Class Medal is worn from a neck ribbon and is awarded to Officers of the rank of colonel.

The III Class Medal features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "There is No God but God and Muhammad is His Messenger."

Recipients of the III Class were entitled to a one-time monetary award of 4000 Saudi Riyal (approximately $1065) and a monthly stipend of 200 Saudi Riyal (approximately $55).
