History

The Order of the Wounded was instituted by Legislative Decree on July 4, 1953. The Order is presented in one class to civilians and members of the Syrian Armed Forces who were wounded in the defence of the nation or whilst carrying out military operations in a satisfactory manner. In exceptional circumstances, the Order may be bestowed by the President of Syria. Other foreigners may also be eligible for the award.
