History

The Watan Order, or Motherland Order, was established in 2007 as the highest national honour of Turkmenistan. The Order is only bestowed upon the current president for outstanding achievements in domestic and foreign policies. The Order was created for President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, and the President remains the only recipient of the Order.

Recipients of the Collar are also entitled to a monetary award of US $20 000 from the state budget, a 30 percent monthly income tax-tax free increase to official salary, and pension from the state budget
