History

The Order of Sheikh Zayed was instituted in the late 1990's as the United Arab Emirates highest national honour. The Collar is conferred to heads of state in recognition of civil service. The Order is known to have been presented in recognition of the promotion of historical links, relations, and the economic, political, or developmental cooperation between nations, as well as for significant services made in the national or societal interest. Qualifying service includes demonstrations of humanitarian work and life serving the state. Service in the fields of culture, art, sports, and other civil areas may also be eligible for the award.

The obverse features an Arabic inscription which translates to "Zayed."
