The Order of the Union, or the Order of Unity, was established following the Federations of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971. The Order was originally created as the United Arab Emirate's highest honour, but was superseded in precedence by the Order of Sheikh Zayed.

The Grand Cordon features 49 diamonds and is worn from a sash.

The obverse features an Arabic inscription which translates to "The United Arab Emirates, The Collar of Unity."
