History

The Commissioner’s Commendation (Courage)-NSW was instituted in 1970 and is conferred upon individuals who demonstrate extraordinary courage while on active duty. It may be awarded posthumously.

The Commendation is a bronze bird with a circular Cross of St. George above its head. The insignia is attached to a light blue ribbon with thin white edge stripes.

A bronze bar is awarded to recognise additional acts of courage.
