The Commissioner’s Commendation (Service)-NSW was instituted in 1970. It is annually awarded to around ten Police Officers for demonstrating courage in the line of duty. It may be awarded posthumously.

The Commendation is a bronze bird with the Cross of St. George from the New South Wales flag above its head. The insignia is attached to a light blue ribbon with thin white edge stripes.
