This Medal is conferred upon members of the Queensland Police Service who performs acts of great bravery in extremely dangerous situations. Such circumstances include: arresting armed offenders, leaving cover to engage with an offender during a hostage situation, rescuing people from fire related events, and performing rescues in hazardous circumstances.

The award may be awarded posthumously or to an individual who has left the service.

The medal is in the shape of a Maltese Cross with a wreath between the cross arms. The centre of the cross has an enamelled centrepiece that depicts the Crown of St. Edward surrounded by the inscription ‘QUEENSLAND POLICE VALOUR AWARD’. The recipient’s information is pantographed on the reverse of the medal.
